Ubuntu Linux Plans to Remove Outdated /etc/debian_version File

The /etc/debian_version file has been part of Ubuntu since its inception, inherited from Debian. However, its relevance has diminished over time.

Currently, this file merely indicates the Debian Sid development version, which does not accurately reflect the state of Ubuntu releases.

The Ubuntu team is considering replacing it with the more reliable /etc/os-release file, which provides better information about the operating system.
