The fine stems from Nintendo's delayed response to a known defect in its Joy-Con controllers. The company acknowledged the issue in 2018 but did not communicate it until 2020.

Despite being aware of the defect for several years, a solution was not offered to consumers until 2023. This prolonged inaction has drawn significant penalties from French authorities.

France's competition, consumer, and fraud watchdog has taken a firm stance on the matter, highlighting the importance of timely communication and resolution of consumer issues.
