Fatih Birol, the head of the International Energy Agency (IEA), has issued a stark warning to European leaders regarding the potential easing of sanctions on Russian energy. He cautioned that such a move would be a 'major mistake.'
The warning comes as the EU faces a significant energy security crisis, described by the IEA as the 'biggest energy security crisis ever,' exacerbated by recent price shocks linked to the shutdown of the Strait of Hormuz.
Birol emphasized the risks associated with engaging with Russia for energy, suggesting that it could lead to repeating past mistakes that have had negative consequences for Europe.
